I mentioned to my
class that Dana was having a meeting to do art for
people needing hope in hospitals and doctors offices. Later a group of
students sat happily painting. There were people who had never
really
painted much and there were people who painted regularly. We all
had a
great time on Friday evening painting scenes that might encourage
someone. I was amazed at the beauty that comes through even
with
painters who may have had little experience at all. The expressive
qualities in their work would speak to someone needing hope. The very
fact that the art work was from a human hand, individually taking time
to encourage, says a lot in itself to many an anxious patient.
The patients tell Dana that although there is often professional art on
display in the hospital, somehow these images are more dear to their
hearts. The patient can actually own one before they leave.... as a
gift.
Despite the fact that there was no special credit or points for
students to be there, they were there anyway...simply because the loved
to help and loved Dana. That says a lot! I asked Dana how
she funded
the expensive supplies. She made light of it but I realized that this
comes out of her own pocket..canvases, paint and brushes are quite
expensive. Surely something like this deserves support from us.
Thanks
Dana for all you do. Jesus smiles on this. |
